Four Virginia Poets Laureate
Many of you may remember the Annual Poetry Festival event conducted May 22, 2004 at the Bruton Heights School auditorium that featured readings by four Poets Laureate of Virginia: Margaret Ward Morland, Joseph Awad, Grace Simpson, and George Garrett. Last year, PSV sold DVDs of that event that included their readings and interviews with the laureates. PSV has now published a book that contains: a brief history of the position of Poet Laureate of Virginia; brief bios of each of the four laureates; the text of the poems presented by the four; critical reviews of the poetry by Roseann Runte, James Peterson, Cathryn Hankla, and Henry Hart; and classroom exercises for teachers. The book was edited by the current Poet Laureate of Virginia, Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, and Ed Lull.
These books are now for sale at a price of $10.95, by PSV. To order, send your request to:
Colony Books Attn: Poetry Society of Virginia P.O. Box 6572 Williamsburg, VA 23188.
Checks should be made out to: The Poetry Society of Virginia for $10.95 per book. If ordering 1 or 2 books, include $1.50 shipping; if ordering three or more books, add $2.50 for shipping.
Poets Laureate 1996-2004 DVD available for sale. If you wish to purchase a 2 hour DVD of our Virginia Poets Laureate the cost is $15 picked up at a PSV event or $16 if mailed to you directly. The DVD contains readings of seven poems from each poet plus interviews with them on the craft of writing poetry. This event was filmed in Williamsburg on May 22, 2004. Because the mailing envelope can hold only one DVD, PSV will be happy to send additional copies directly to relatives and friends you may want to send them to. In any event at this time you will receive individual DVDs. These would be great for anyone working with students or teaching the craft of poetry to adults. They were professionally filmed and edited. You will not be disappointed. You may make copies of these for your own use as well. Schools may copy them as they wish. This will provide us inroads to venues we may not have reached before. There are 200 initial copies available. If we sell out, there will be a short delay to produce more. Send checks payable to the Poetry Society of Virginia; P.O. Box 35160; Richmond, VA. 23235.
