Each year the Poetry Society of Virginia sponsors both adult and student contests.  Adult poets from any state may submit individual poems in over twenty themed categories. Students must be Virginia residents.  All entries must be in English, typed, original, and not scheduled for publication before May 1, 2022. The author retains copyright.

All poems are presented anonymously to the judges. Prizes are given for first, second, and third place winners.  Members of the PSV do not pay an entry fee. Non-members pay $5 per poem submitted.

Poems that have previously won a monetary award in a PSV contest are ineligible. Submit only one poem per category. No poem may be entered in more than one category.

Deadline: January 19, 2022 (Edgar Allan Poe’s Birthday).

The winning poems will be read and honored at the Poetry Society of Virginia Awards Ceremony in the spring of 2022. The location and date will be announced with the winners. Winning poems will be published in the Society’s annual journal.
